This year's High Country Wine and Food Festival is on April 16th through 19th, in downtown Blowing Rock, is just under an hour's drive from Beech Mountain; and so makes an excellent candidate for a day trip during your Beech Mountain break. And our local Banner Elk Winery will be participating once more in the Grand Tasting, held in downtown Blowing Rock on April 18th. Banner Elk Winery is just 5 miles down the mountain from our place, and its tasting room is also worth a visit during your Summer break up on Beech Mountain. Banner Elk Winery produces many excellent tastes (Indeed, several of their vintages are Blue Ridge Wine Festival winners) made from grapes grown in unique soils and climate of Watauga and Avery counties.
The annual wine festival is a fantastic way to experience the best in North Carolina wines, since instead of moving from vineyard to vineyard, over 30 wineries from North Carolina and beyond come to one place. This year's festivities start with the “Uncork the Festival” event on Thursday, where you can expand your knowledge with wine pairing seminars and cooking classes, as well as taking some time to sample the various masterpieces produced by High Country winemakers.
Once you have had your fill of excellent food and picked out a few bottles of your excited new discoveries, you can retreat again, above the crowds, to the peaceful quiet and inspiring views from our little place atop Beech Mountain. Pour yourself a glass and reflect on the pleasures of your day's adventures down below as you watch the pinks and purples of a lovely sunset spread across the evening sky.
