If you want to increase your chances of a white Christmas this year, how 'bout celebrating the winter holidays up on Beech Mountain, NC, "the Snow Capital of the Southeast"? (In 2009-10, Beech Mountain enjoyed 134 inches of natural snow, doncha' know!)
On Saturday evening (5 thru 6p.m.), December 18th, you can plan on helping out the Town of Beech with the annual Lighting of the Tree. You're welcome to bring an ornament to help decorate, enjoy complimentary hot cocoa, cider, and cookies at the Chamber of Commerce, and admire the finished tree . . . perhaps while singing a few carols. And the kids can reassure themselves that Santa knows to which vacation condo he should deliver the toys this particular year, by stopping by to speak with him personally (and take some pictures too) at Fred's General Mercantile Gazebo during Santa's Annual Beech Mountain visit (from 4-5 p.m.).
